History of Friedens Church

Throughout the year 2000, Friedens UCC celebrated 125 years of serving the Troy community. Around the middle of each month a bit of the history was presented to the congregation during the regular church service. So that others may enjoy this history, links to these historical readings are provided below.

A Brief History of Troy Before Friedens UCC

The first settlements in the area of present day Troy were built prior to 1804. The town of Troy received its name in 1819 and was officially placed on record in 1839. Growth was slow, but steady at first as a stage coach line passed through the town connecting St. Louis, Missouri and Terre Haute, Indiana. Later, as the railroad was built through the region, the stage line went out of existence and Troy was no longer a stepping stone to other locations.
